Online dating is a hot topic. Everyone has an opinion on how it should be done, and everyone seems to have met someone through the platform.

However, when you find yourself in a conversation with a potential partner, what do you talk about?

Whether you’re meeting your soulmate or just looking for a quick hookup, these are some great questions to ask.

What To Talk on Online Dating

First things first, do you have a big enough bucket for all of your dating needs?

If not, then you may want to reconsider your strategy on how to talk about yourself.

After all, what’s more important than yourself?

Once you get comfortable talking about your interests and hobbies, you can move on to talking about yourself as a person.

What are your favourite television shows and movies?

Talking about a movie you liked after the conversation becomes dull will show that you lack originality.

If, on the other hand, it comes up with no hesitation at all when someone asks “what do like?” then consider yourself free to talk about any topic at all!

Do you have an iPhone? How long have civilisations existed without using mobile phones in order to send text messages or schedule meetings ?

If you are on a first date with someone and they start to bring up phone apps like Tinder, then this is definitely not the best time to have small talk!

You either aren’t interested or need more hints as to how your conversation will go.

Instead, think of something interesting (don’t repeat yourself) that people might find fun talking about or that is culturally significant.

Do you like Harry Potter? If so, which book are you most looking forward to reading in order to finish the series?

Although this might seem like an easy question to answer, it can actually tell a lot about someone.

Are they creative and enjoy engaging in discussions that require depth of thought or do they prefer straight-forward information with few distractions?

Do you have a favourite food? Do foods make you feel full, or do they only serve to fill your stomach with calories that lead to weight gain?

Are there quantities of food where it is too much given the time taken to actually finish up your meal instead of being satisfied by its taste and texture?

Pretending doesn’t mean acting like someone else; just don’t overdo yourself. It’s alright if you secretly think in small doses – but no more!

Do you spend time designing restaurants for Fantasy Football , or do your attempts at it have been dismissed by confused customers who can’t tell what to eat from the menu?

If so, tell them honestly and don’t pretend this is common behaviour.

You could start off by discussing your hobbies and interests or when you talk about yourself on a first date, find something unexpected to mention that most people wouldn’t expect.

There are many websites where you can either study what people say their main concern is before the conversation starts in order to avoid saying anything too personal as ‘I was upset when I learned that…’ and ‘I always jump to a negative conclusion, so…”.

We have created these tips in order to help you get started in asking questions whenever you are on an actual date with someone new, but we feel like there is always more room for improvement!

Of course having friendly small talk also means being able to chat about any topic at all as long if it doesn’t include opinions – which obviously shouldn’t be the priority.

Personal experiences and observations are the core of each person’s uniqueness in how they think, act, relate to others and the world around them as well as an essential part of who you are and what makes you unique.

The more adventurous way is to ask at least one personal question related to your date’s life or history….

…. which of course will be revealed through the conversation itself but can help both parties get a better understanding about each other on that second date.

The next time you find yourself in a conversation, try to ask and answer five questions about the person you’re talking to.

Doing this will help you get to know them better, understand their interests, and build a stronger connection.
